Backend Engineer (Python)

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer who is strongest in Python and comfortable owning services that other products depend on. You will design APIs, data models, and pipelines that stay reliable under load. You will also be the person who makes AI features production-grade: queues, retries, auth, and observability rather than a notebook that almost works.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement APIs, services, and background jobs in Python
• Model data in PostgreSQL (and other stores when they are the right tool) and keep queries honest
• Build integrations, webhooks, and data pipelines that are idempotent and observable
• Deploy and operate services on AWS, Azure, or GCP with containers and CI/CD
• Partner with AI engineers to productionize model calls, retrieval, and evaluation jobs
• Raise the bar on testing, security, and documentation for the services you own

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional Python experience on production backend systems
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, authentication, and relational database design
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, and automated deployments
• Comfortable with async work, queues, and failure handling
• Ability to debug production issues using logs, metrics, and traces
• Clear communication in a remote, multi-disciplinary team

Nice to have

• FastAPI, Django, or similar Python web frameworks at scale
• Experience with Redis, MongoDB, or event-driven architectures
• Familiarity with LLM APIs, embeddings, or data pipelines for RAG
• Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi) and Kubernetes exposure
